What a great find. This was our second choice, as the 1st place we wanted to go to was closed. I am so happy that it was. The service was top notch, Stanly our waiter made some excellent recommendations. My husband had the bone marrow appetizer and loved it.
Try a specialty cocktail as well.  We will return the next time we are on London.

With only 4 nights (3 days) in London over New Years, our dining selections were purposeful and directed. After hearing that Gymkhana was "the place" to be - Michelin star and chef aside, based on food alone - we came for lunch this past weekend.

The ambiance is casual/wooden. Elbows on the table are okay (lots of good people watching too). Service was okay overall; maybe because we came late, we were shuffled around between lunch and dinner servers. Anyway, onto the food.

After ordering our drinks (we went for the wine pairing, which seemed the easiest and most efficient), we were presented with 5 completely different menus, with absolutely no explanation. Obviously we panicked and opted for the 7 course lunch tasting, which was totally uncalled for given that it was after 3 pm at this point but, nobody advised against it or made any comments at all.

The courses came slowly and the pairings were interesting, but not wowing. Maybe I just got too full, but the meal got progressively worse. While I was initially intrigued by the pomegranate yellow rice that was maybe course number 2, by the time the same rice regurgitated itself as course 6, with slightly different sauces, I was so nauseated that I couldn't even drink the wine it was paired with. The food was fine, but really not that wonderful, especially considering how much we ate (e.g. they had 7+ chances).

Our somm (we had two lol) was great - the timing was just off. Overall, I was expecting so much more from this place after hearing YES from so many people. Gymkhana is definitely "different" than traditional Indian food as it's usually presented in the States. But for me, it was a no. Perhaps the experience would've been better a la carte, but I was so overwhelmed with the menu that that wasn't even in the realm of possibility.

Some dishes were good- the grilled salmon for example - but others, which they really hyped up, were bland ("local" Guinea fowl in a cumin cream sauce). A positive aspect was that nobody rushed us out between lunch and dinner; in fact, we were encouraged to stay!

One of the best Indian meals I can remember having. We had been wanting to come here for a while, given the hype around this being the best Indian food in a city full of great Indian places, and it lived up to those big expectations.

We got a bread basket, the tandoori masala lamb chops, wild muntjac biryani, tiger prawn kebab, and dal maharani. We were blown away by the lamb chops, loved the biryani and the dal, and really liked the kebab. This was a lot of food, so while there were plenty of other things on the menu I'd like to try as well, they'll have to wait until another visit (the kid goat, quail seekh kebab, dosas, chicken butter masala, lamb shank -- too many to name, really).

I also got a mango lassi to drink, which I actually wasn't that crazy about.

Overall, a fantastic meal. Dishoom had always been our favorite Indian place in London (or anywhere...) and I think this surpassed it in terms of pure food quality. (Dishoom is roughly half the price though, so there's obviously a tradeoff there.)

I was definitely looking forward to having an amazing Indian meal at Gymkhana, however after dining here, I left a little disappointed!

Learning about this restaurant from a magazine article and seeing it also had a Michelin star, I was expecting an amazing and highly memorable meal that will make my taste buds dance.  Well to my surprise, the food was just okay, with some overly salty.

My night started out at the bar where I got a few drinks.  I must say, the bartenders here do make a great cocktail!  Probably the best thing I had all night!  Definitely work a trip to the bar if you are waiting for your table.

I was debating between the fixed-course menu or ordering ala carte.  I decided on ordering off of the menu.
    * Aloo Chat - Fried potatoes with spices and sauces.  This dish was okay, a bit too sweet for my liking, but flavorful.  I had a version of this at a different restaurant that was much more memorable than this.  Good, but not amazing.

    * Chicken Butter Masala - Flavors were all there, but it was so salty!  I didn't order and rice, but ate this with the naan.  Again, it tasted like any butter chicken I have had, just a bit too salty.

    * Fried Okra - I thought I order a different style of okra that is typically stir-fried and cooked with tomatoes and onions.  But instead I got deep-fried okra.  I was a bit bummed, but it wasn't terrible.  Again, this dish was a bit too salty.

    * Naan - great naan!  Soft, buttery, and fresh! No complaints there.

Overall, I felt I missed out on having a great experience here.  I later saw a bunch of people ordering the biryani with mutten.  Apparently, this was their famous dish, but the waitress did not even make an attempt to sell this to me or even mention it.  Not sure what happened there, but after learning about that dish, I was sad to not have tried it!  It looked amazing too!

Well overall, the service was top notch, the drinks were amazing.  The food, it was just okay.  Dishes were flavorful, but I did not notice anything that made Gymkhana stand out compared to other Indian restaurants I have been to.

Gymkhana was good but not great considering it's Michelin reputation. I did enjoy most of the dishes but were a bit salty for my taste. Service was amazing for both the front and back of the house.
Dishes I enjoyed: naan, kid goat, the rice and pastry crust of the wild muntjac biryani, and the butter chicken masala
Dishes that were lackluster: the deer meat was funkyyy in wild muntjac biryani, dosa and duck was dry, salt level for everything was high.
I don't know if I would consider returning but had a decent experience overall.
